CARR Awarded San Diego Foundation Age-Friendly Grant

CARR  is one of the four grant recipients under the 2017 San Diego Foundation's Age Friendly Communities Program - a partnership between The San Diego Foundation and The Del Mar Healthcare Fund at The San Diego Foundation.  The grant project's findings will move San Diego towards receiving an Age Friendly/Livable Community for All Ages designation from the World Health Organization/AARP.

The program will span one year (ending March 2018) and will measure assisted living accessibility (defined as availability and affordability) of assisted living care in San Diego County's individual communities.  Understanding the role of assisted living within aging communities clarifies the care model's potential to be a part of the Age-Friendly Communities movement, as well as the need for alternative home and community-based services.  To date, little to no research has been performed on assisted living accessibility at local levels despite the anticipated need for this form of care over the next 30 years.  The findings and recommendations of this program will be shared with elected officials and local organizations to educate and increase awareness about assisted living accessibility and the needs of San Diego's dependent senior population.
